Let Maria know that you are attending the International Seminar for Teacher Education. Do NOT use the normal on-line hotel reservation system. In general the most efficient way to transfer from airports to the hotel is by taxi. However, it is also the most expensive way. We will ask you to let us know in advance your flight number and arrival time. With this information we may be able to coordinate shared transport to reduce costs where possible, but we cannot guarantee this. Here are transport details for one person traveling alone:
Distance: 25.5 miles
Journey time: about 37 minutes
Taxi cost: about $86.00 including tip and tolls (ask the taxi driver before you leave). Some cabs take credit cards others only cash.
Distance: 48.0 miles
Journey time: about 1 hour 16 minutes minutes
Taxi cost: about $135.50 including tip and tolls (ask the taxi driver before you leave). Some cabs take credit cards others only cash.
Distance: 34.0 miles
Journey time: about 45 minutes
Taxi cost: about $104.00 including tip and tolls (ask the taxi driver before you leave). Some cabs take credit cards others only cash.
Sharing taxis, limousines and vans produces a considerable saving per person. Much here depends upon the arrival airport and time. It will be easier if you are travelling with colleagues you know. If you are travelling alone, be sure to give us your flight and arrival details and we will do our best to help you link up with others for sharing. But, please keep in mind that this will not always be possible.
Our seminar hotel is comfortable, but not very close to downtown New York City (NYC), and that is what makes it very affordable. You can certainly stay longer there if you wish to book ahead, though you may not get the discount price. There are ways to get to NYC using the hotel shuttle van and NJ Transit public transportation (a little complicated but possible). Our general advice though is to relocate to NYC if possible. Here is a link to a web site that can give you a range of options: http://www.booking.com/. Be warned – New York can be expensive!
Predicting weather conditions is never easy. Average temperatures in Northern New Jersey and New York in June are usually between 210C (700F) and 260C (800F). However, sometimes the area experiences heat wave that can be higher. In contrast, buildings and transportation are usually kept cool with air conditioning (AC). Sometimes the contrast between indoors and outdoors temperatures can be dramatic. High humidity can also be a factor at this time of year. Sudden storms can occasionally occur bringing heavy rain for brief periods. It is rare to have sustained period of rain and, for the most part, one can expect bright sunlight for most of the time. With this in mind, you may want to bring clothing that suits these conditions including a light waterproof jacket, something to keep you warm indoors, comfortable walking shoes, and sunglasses.
